Quicks ArcherTuning the Archer

Mental Tuning of the Shooter is a big part of Shooting...We have several books on the subject. A good one is "In Pursuit of Excellence"; by Terry Orlick...well worth a read : and a good starting point for training your head as well as your equipment and body. Also the book "With Winning In Mind" by Al Henderson is excellent. Study of this aspect of shooting will repay well the time spent.

For a few years now the Limb Saver range by Sims Vibration Laboratories, stick on shock absorbers on the bow limb have become very popular in the UK and do lessen noise from the bow....but you will have to decide on how  the  bow is grouping and any retuning you may need to do....but they do stop the shock going into the archer...

Information We do a number of good books, but here are two which I would recommend.

Archery Anatomy-an excellent read and reference book. acts as a good technical guide for why its better to try and shoot in a particular way with a particular technique. See our On-line Shop... can be a source to dip into when you have little doubts.

The Simple Art Of Winning-another good book as a reference by one of the foremost recurve archers of the last decade...also on the booklist...he is very experienced and has tried out most of the ideas at one time or another. Good photos and all around information on many aspects of shooting.
There are a number of other performance books also----for the mental side ....plus a number of others see the books area

Now here is a tip...

Consistent Shooting:The Bow Arm.... Probably the most effective way for most archers to improve their score is to learn to hold the bow arm still before during and after the shot. (I know you like to see the arrow fly ,so do I.) The platform for a consistent performance is the bow arm. Keep that platform solid for a solid performance. You can see all sorts of looses at top levels of archery , but you dont see many who throw the bow arm about during the shot. A loose can seem inconsistent to the observer and may be so , the bow arm will overcome a lot of other ills. Try proping yourself up on one arm so that the floor is your bow on the end of your arm (body touching the floor at your foot and at the palm of your hand only, with your arm outstretched in the position that you hold it when drawing the bow)The position of your shoulder elbow and wrist joints will have to be solid to hold up your body weight. The overload shows you the most stable position in practise.
